I am so lucky to be a teacher (one) and work at a school with a pretty low key dress code (two). Most days, I can be found wearing my trust J. Crew pants, a solid tee, and some sort of jacket or cardigan. Maybe you’re expected to get a little more presentable, but I think we can all agree on one thing, Casual Fridays are pretty much amazing! That being said, there are some limits (or at least should be) to what you wear. I can’t help, but think of an episode on The Office where a character wore a super risque strapless dress only to flash everyone on their first (and last) casual Friday. Don’t be that person! To help, I’m sharing my favorite pieces to make for a work-friendly and chic, casual Friday outfit.
- A neutral blazer: You may already have this in your closet for work, but if not, it’s a great piece to have. Whether you pick navy, black, grey, or camel, it can be dressed up or down. Bonus points: It will keep you warm in a chilly office. My favorite place to shop for blazers has got to be J. Crew or J. Crew Factory. They come in all of the classic colors, but they also have more seasonal colors too.
- Dark wash jeans: This is arguably the most important piece to the Casual Friday puzzle. Some people live for Friday just so they can wear jeans. The color of the jeans really doesn’t matter. Dark wash is my preference because I think it’s the most flattering and versatile. They also transition super easily for happy hour, but that’s just me. Notice that my jeans are free of distressing and have a pretty high waist-line and are free of holes. We are still at work after all!
- A stylish pair of sneakers: Sneakers instantly make an outfit more casual. Not to mention they are super comfy. Whether you pick Vans slip-ons, neutral colored Nikes, or any pair of New Balances, leave your workout shoes at home to look put together and not like you’re running to the gym.
- Over-sized tote bag: If you are making plans for after work, a tote bag may be your best friend to hold all of your necessities. If you followed my tips from above, then we know your outfit will be perfect for happy hour or a casual date night. Just keep a change of shoes, a coordinating clutch, and a little bit of makeup for touchups to be ready for the transition.
This Friday is all the sweeter because a lot of us have that magical three-day weekend! That’s one more day to enjoy yourself and relax. Comment below what you’re going to do with that extra time or share your go-to look on Casual Friday. Happy Friday!
