Ladies, it’s here. The most magical time of year that makes every Saturday feel like Christmas. Waking up early to gather around with your loved ones and watch ESPN (Mimosa and Bloody Mary optional, but preferred). I’m obviously talking about College Football and this girl bleeds Garnet and Gold. While it’s a lot harder to make every home game (but I still try), I still love going to local watch parties and cheer with my fellow alum and fans.
The one thing that hasn’t changed much since my college days is the fact that I just love getting a little gussied up for the games. I was (and still am) just looking for an excuse to fill my closet with all things Garnet and Gold. Any fashionable sports fan worth her salt always has a sliver of their wardrobe dedicated to team spirit.
This season, we’re starting off with a big game (versus Alabama). Unfortunately, I won’t be making it up to Atlanta for the game, but you can bet my butt will be glued to the TV. Most likely, we’ll be heading to The Avenue here in Downtown St. Pete. Not only does it have some of the best burgers in town, but it’s also home to the FSU Alumni Chapter. Because the owner is an FSU grad, I get the double whammy of supporting a local business and an FSU business.
For the game, I’m just loving this garnet sun dress from Leith. I picked it up all the way back at the Nordstrom sale knowing full well I’d want to rock it come game day. Bonus points: IT’S ON SALE AGAIN!! Good things come to those who wait. This dress really spoke to me when I saw the back. Football stadiums all have an incredible knack for being hot, humid places. Doak Campbell Stadium is no exception (thanks to 79,000 of my closest friends). The open back of this dress may not fully prevent me from sweating in Florida heat, but at least I have the peace of mind that it won’t be broadcasted on the back of my dress.
No FSU game day outfit is complete without gold accessories. After all, Garnet and Gold go together like Macaroni and Cheese. My gold Jack Rogers fit the bill. These guys have been to countless games and have stood the test of time. They are the perfect pick for walking through grassy tailgates and hiking up tall stadium stairs. For my bag, I chose my staple crossbody Dooney bag. Doak Campbell, like many other stadiums, has a very strict bag policy. However, of all the games I went to last year (AKA all the home games), no one who worked there could give me an official answer. Clutches are the way to go, but wildly impractical when you’re doing the CHOP or cheering on a TD. The secret I found: if you turn that crossbody into a clutch while you’re in line (and just tuck it under your arm), no one is going to say anything to you. Tote bags obviously off limits.
No matter who you cheer for, I hope you have fun this football season. See you at the National Championship.
