Whenever we travel, David and I always like to treat ourselves to one ‘fancy’ dinner. Both of us are low-key foodies and take our meals very seriously. Besides, it’s always fun to let our taster buds indulge every once in awhile.
The trip to Puerto Rico held true to that tradition. After scouring the internet for reviews, with using keywords like romantic and view, I finally came across Perla. Perla is the Spanish word for pearl and is perfectly suited for the restaurant. The images of the restaurant alone were enough to make me book my reservation through Open Table.
The restaurant was even prettier in person. The white, shell-shaped building looked out to an 180 degree view of the Atlantic Ocean and a private beach. We were enjoying the waves almost as the surfers below were. The brightly colored stained glass as you enter cast a rainbow, causing an iridescent glow- in true pearl fashion. We were truly blown away.
The food was equally wonderful. After ordering a bottle of Malbec (my red of choice), we started with the Conch con ‘Mojo.’ Being a Florida girl, I always love a good conch dish. This particular one was served as crispy bed for the toasted coconut and topped with chimchurri. Light, but very tasty.
For the main course, David had the Pan Roasted Sea Bass with Truffle Risotto and Main Lobster. Such a New Englander, I know. I opted for the Spicy Seared Tuna over a bed of red lentils and drizzled with a Szechuan peppercorn sauce Both of our meals were beautifully plated, delicious to eat, and did not last long.
To end, we had their Strawberry Shortcake with homemade ice cream. The cake was light and much crispy than a normal shortcake. This made me feel (slightly) less guilty after such an indulgent meal.
Okay, I know this post become has become much longer than I normally write. Before I part, I wanted to share one more thing: my outfit of the night. Playing dress up is one of the best parts of date night. Very last minute, I picked up this dress from Canvas (my go-to St. Pete boutique). There customer service is absolutely wonderful and I had so much fun with the ladies working who were trying to help me find a dress. Because of the look of the restaurant, I knew I was just dying to wear a white dress. These ladies delivered in a major way. I would love the opportunity to collaborate with them on future posts and support local, St. Pete businesses.
If y’all are ever in San Juan and are looking for that romantic dinner for two, I would definitely recommend Perla. The beautiful views and divine food could be just what the doctored ordered.
Peace and Love from Florida,
